Australian HMAS Melbourne gave Chinese Military the Steam Catapault launching system and the arrested cables system.
The Chinese Aircraft Carrier development and inside knowledge of Aircraft Carrier technology was not acquired by the Russians, the Chinese and Russians never trusted each other, so the Russians NEVER shared with China Aircraft Carrier construction and technological schematics on their Aircraft Carriers. The Chinese had to learn from scratch. When the Australian Government finally got rid of the HMAS Melbourne the Australians made sure that all the weapons installed were removed, thinking that this was the crucial asset that the Chinese were wanting to acquire. It wasnt. In 1984, the Australian Government sold the HMAS Melbourne, which was bought from the Royal Navy in 1949 for a hefty sum of 10 POUNDs Sterling. Yes, the HMAS Melbourne was bought for 10 pounds from Great Britain with the promise that Australia will commit to bringing into Australia, 10 pound Poms, and to buy British goods and services.
The HMAS Melbourne was meant to be the Australian Flagship after World War Two elevating the Australian Navy after World War Two as the Third most powerful Navy after the US Navy and the Royal British Navy. That was back in 1949 and throughout the 1950s. Due to the sparse Australian population and limited domestic military industrial complex the rest of the world overtook the Australian Navy very easily.
What did the Chinese gain from the HMAS Melbourne that was more valuable than the weapons on board the HMAS Melbourne?
1. The Steam powered Catapault launching system.
The Chinese were clueless of this technology and had no idea of how to build it since there were no schematic given to them, even as late as 1984.
2. The composition and technological development of the Aircraft Carrier ARRESTED CABLES.
The Chinese were unaware of the construction and composition of the arrested cables and how to install and how the arrested cables could function.
The Ukrainians sold to the Chinese theie Aircraft Carrier which was heavy ladened with barnacles and all its arrested cables system and the steam powered catapault system removed by the Ukrainians in 2012.
In less than a decade the Chinese have manufactured three Aircraft Carriers and the Chinese Aircraft Carrier technology development has been accelerated since the acquisition of the Australian Aircraft Carrier as scrap metal back in 1984.
Likewise with the Chinese hypersonic knowledge, whereby some Australian University Students from the University of Queensland had successfully launched the first scramjet in 2002, the Chinese were able to acquire the scramjet knowledge to develop their Hypersonic missiles through some online schematics of a University Student's work. The Australians have accidentally aided and abetted in the acceleration of the Chinese Military advancement without meaning to do so.
China is grateful for the absent minded Australians for their breadcrumbs in military technology that has been capitalised by the Chinese. For this reason China will forever be grateful for their reluctant and clumsy Australian Benefactor.
