An attempt at Autarky with a very modest industrial base is punching well above your weight comparable to other Manufacturing Giants who are responsible for a glut overproduction of many manufactured sectors including within the energy resources sectors. The attempt to manufacture solar panels may be sustainable for the exclusive domestic market, but, it is a little too late to be expansive and competitive against International peer competitors, especially China. China has been subjected to US Treasury Secretary Yellens outrage after flooding the US domestic consumer market with very affordable manufactured goods that undercut domestic manufacturing sectors. The deflationary impact of Chinese Consumerism has broken the camels back for the American domestic manufacturing industries and in thus undermined the American employment and manufacturing sectors on many important sectors. In Car manufacturing, the American Car giants have had to outsource to China for major American vehicular production, General Motors a case in point. In Australian car manufacturing, Ford and General Motors Holden has been manufactured within China and elsewhere within Asia, in a clear global interdependence on affordable manufactured goods from mass manufacturing powerhouses like China. Australia attempting to manufacture Solar Panels will never be a unique global venture to be considered globally competitive. Buy Australia label and advertisement campaign has been the domestic manufacturing mantra for decades however the reality of free trade has open sourced goods and services that are much more competitive and affordable and qualitatively superior than domestically manufactured goods, such as Solar Panels. In the long term, the consumer will determine the business success of local domestic manufacturing sectors. In an age of free market economies, Australian Autarky seems an antiquated whimsical past dream which is unrealistic in a multipolarity world with Regional and global wide consumer led economics that will undermine local loyalties. An Autarky Australian political economic reality is a pipe dream left for Nationalists to aspire to achieve. As for the Globalists and a Consumer led economy will proffer choices that will have consumers buying a cheaper and qualitatively well built foreign made product than the local product. The consumer will determine the success or failure of local Australian manufacturing. More to the point, the Manufacturing Giant and the manufacturing hub of the World, China, will more often than not win out by the hip pocket and budget conscience Australian consumer.
