When you think of the Toa Samoa, youd mistakenly think of Rugby League, right?

These are the REAL Toa Samoa.
In truth, Id feel more comfortable in this Toa Samoa unit amongst my Ancestors brandishing my Nifo Oti, than in a Rugby League Uniform.
This is my kindred spirits as a direct descendant of le Maota O Pouesi, the House of Malietoa Talavou, the Commander of the Malietoa Army who fought with his troops during the Samoan Civil wars in back in the 19th Century.
Nb. this picture courtesy of the Samoan Talafa'asolopito Facebook page, was taken in 1900, during the Mataafa versus Malietoa Tanumafili Forces in and around Apia, Upolu Island, Samoa.
During this civil skirmish, even then the British and Americans took sides with the Malietoa and the Germans supported Mataafa's forces. Often, they tend to confuse which sides they were meant to support during the skirmishes. Like the European Soldiers unless they were in distinctive uniforms, theyd confuse each who the enemy was during battles. Even more confusing was the Samoans wore the same battle garments as the enemy and only knew the enemy on a one on one familiarity or unfamiliarity bases on the battlefield, such was the chaos and confusion of the fog of war.
Overall, the Samoan Toa was resplendent with their ornamental Tuiga and brandishing their Nifo Oti as their primary weapons for centuries, the battle was often very savage, very short, and the results very devastatingly brutal.
In this picture, the ornamental Tuiga would be discarded before battle, then the Samoans will arm themselves with Western Firearms, namely, the British Lee Enfiled Rifles with the .303 calibre then disperse instant death and mahem amongst their enemies along the line of contact. Very brief skirmishes along various contact lines namely in Mulinuu and Vailele were notable battlefields.
